I recently traded in my 16-year-old Jaguar X-Type for a fair price, in exchange for a 10-year-old Seat Leon, which came with a very comprehensive RAC warranty. A most pleasant, no-pressure deal. I'd spotted a few scratches on one bumper corner which Tony hadn't noticed - he immediately offered to have that resprayed, and was good as his word, and a nice job too. Now to be clear there were in a short while some problems with the car. Nothing dire, but It developed a slight water loss - but no visible leak; a wheel bearing started to go; the air bag warning light came on and stayed on; and the sat nav didn't work. But of these, only the sat nav would have been possible to spot prior to my buying it. And neither I nor Tony had. The water leak wasn't visible - water was as Tony correctly diagnosed over the phone the EGR valve leaking water into the exhaust - simple fix. The wheel bearing only started to make any sound at all a week or more after I'd bought it. The air bag warning light was only an issue a while after purchase, and that proved to be just a loose connection under the passenger seat. The sat nav? The previous owner had 'liberated' the SD disc, presumably to sell on Ebay or whatever (and totally pointless as these have to be paired to the car by a Seat dealer!) If a used car proves 100% perfect, I'd be happy enough - 4* certainly. But for me, the real test of a garage is what they do when there ARE post sale problems, and whether they should have been avoided. In this case no, they could not have been avoided other than by a clairvoyant; and what Tony undertook was a 70-mile round trip to collect the car, leave me a replacement, take my car back and promptly fix everything, paid a Seat main dealer £££s to provide a 'paired' SD card for the Satnav, and another 70-mile trip to deliver the car back to me! He could just have pointed me to the warranty, but he didn't - he solved it all for me personally so he had all the hassle and I had none. Friendly, ultra-helpful, a really nice guy and exactly the service you want when you buy a used car. That's why, if I could, I'd give this garage 6*! Well actually - I sort-of have.... ;-) Since you are reading this, you are being sensible (as I was) and checking the reviews. You will struggle to find better than his, and well deserved too. I went to another garage yesterday with my son to look at a car for his first car. For various reasons we didn't buy it. We went today to "The Garage at Stanley Mills" and saw Tony. It was so nice not to feel pressured, not to feel like the dealer was trying to hide something! He talked through all the work he'd done on the car before putting it up for sale and produced all the invoices, from independent companies. It was easy to identify the new parts that had been fitted. Sadly car dealers don't always have a good reputation but it was great to find one who I felt I could trust. Very happy with the car :-)
